Dominican and Haitian officials met in Dajabón to define the conditions for the entry of motorcycle taxis coming from Haiti. The initiative aims to better regulate border crossings while maintaining commercial exchanges between the two countries.
The mayor of Dajabón, Santiago Riveron, stated that the decisions taken fall exclusively under Dominican authority. Starting in January, only insured, registered, and compliant motorcycles will be allowed to cross the border, following a rotation system to prevent congestion.
Participants were informed that drivers meeting the established requirements would be granted a certain level of flexibility. However, those operating outside the designated zones will be stopped and fined.
The president of the Federation of Border Market Merchants, Freddy Morillo, explained that these measures are intended to ensure order and facilitate cross-border trade. He noted that Haitian motorcycle taxis will be allowed to circulate freely within a designated tolerance zone surrounding the main market.
From now on, each Haitian tricycle must have an official permit and a color-coded badge issued by the city hall to access the downtown area. These measures aim to improve traffic organization and strengthen cooperation between the two border nations.
