Fake police officer arrested in Delmas 75: a threat to public safety

October 6, 2025

On Tuesday, September 30, 2025, the Haitian National Police (HNP) arrested Louis Oberto in Delmas 75 for impersonating a public official. He was carrying a fake badge and counterfeit insignia identifying him as an “Agent 2,” with a fabricated claim of belonging to the HNP’s 31st class.

During his detention, Oberto tried to justify himself by displaying the fake badge and claiming to be a police officer. The ruse was quickly uncovered by the authorities, highlighting vulnerabilities in the institution’s internal control systems.

This is not an isolated case: in 2024, a woman named Woostha Louis was arrested after claiming to have served as a police officer for 27 years, equipped with a uniform, a firearm, and a falsified badge.

These incidents underscore the need for the HNP to strengthen verification mechanisms for police identification in order to prevent such impersonation and maintain public trust in law enforcement.
