Hélène Roos assumes office as European Union Ambassador to Haiti

October 6, 2025

Ms. Hélène Roos has officially arrived in Haiti to take up her duties as the new Ambassador of the European Union. On Wednesday, she presented her credentials to the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Jean Victor Harvel Jean-Baptiste, marking the start of her term in the country.

During this protocol meeting, discussions focused on “the European Union’s commitment alongside the Haitian people.” The EU reaffirmed its willingness to “travay men nan men ak Ayiti pou yon koperasyon pi djanm” (“work hand in hand with Haiti for a stronger cooperation”), underscoring the priority given to reinforced partnership.

Hélène Roos, an experienced diplomat, previously served as France’s ambassador to Bolivia. Her arrival comes at a time when Haiti faces numerous socio-political challenges, heightening the strategic role of the EU mission in the country.

The new ambassador’s mandate includes supporting development, governance, and humanitarian programs in Haiti. It also aims to maintain a constructive dialogue with Haitian authorities to strengthen stability and European support.
