Judge Association focuses on strengthening judicial safeguards in Haiti

September 14, 2025

The Professional Association of Magistrates (APM in French) opened a training workshop on September 9, 2025, at the Karibe Convention Center in Pétion-Ville. “This event brings together the elite of the judiciary and judicial police officers for rich debate and exchanges,” the organization noted.

Held with United Nations Development Program (UNDP) support, the initiative highlights criminal-law judicial safeguards within the framework of criminal procedure. Guest experts are leading interactive sessions with judges and police to deepen understanding of the requirements in this sensitive area.

Discussions focus in particular on the practical and theoretical application of judicial safeguards in connection with the forthcoming Code of Criminal Procedure. “The work will conclude with concrete recommendations aimed at strengthening the quality and effectiveness of criminal justice,” APM said.

For the association, the workshop is part of a drive to modernize and adapt Haiti’s judicial system. It reflects a clear commitment to strengthening the rule of law through more effective and credible mechanisms.
