In Washington, Prime Minister Fils-Aimé Reaffirms His Priorities: Security and Elections in Haiti

August 28, 2025

On an official visit to the United States, Prime Minister Alix Didier Fils-Aimé took part this Wednesday, August 27, 2025, in a tripartite meeting initiated by the OAS, alongside the United Nations, CARICOM, and the Group of Eminent Persons. On this occasion, he expressed his “deep gratitude” to international partners and welcomed the roadmap proposed by the OAS to support Haiti’s transition.

The head of government reiterated that restoring security remains the central challenge. He announced new measures aimed at strengthening the National Police, mobilizing the Armed Forces, and ensuring state control over the country’s main territorial routes.

Addressing the electoral issue, Alix Didier Fils-Aimé reaffirmed the transitional government’s commitment to guarantee transparent and inclusive elections. According to him, “more than 85% of polling centers have already been identified, 70% of electoral staff are mobilized, and $65 million in national funding has been secured.”

The Prime Minister also called for continued international support, stressing that such assistance must go beyond the security dimension alone. He emphasized the importance of coordinated aid in governance, humanitarian assistance, and economic recovery.

“Haiti needs a solid and coherent partnership to regain peace, stability, and hope,” concluded the head of government before his counterparts in Washington. His message was directed as much to foreign allies as to the Haitian population, eager to see these commitments translated into concrete action.
