Port-au-Prince Shaken: Earthquake Strikes, Fear Returns

A magnitude 4.1 earthquake struck near Pétion-Ville late on Monday night, August 4, 2025, sending waves of panic across several districts of the Haitian capital. In Delmas, Gressier, and Croix-des-Bouquets, residents rushed out of their homes in alarm as the tremors hit.

The epicenter, located about 13 kilometers (8 miles) from Pétion-Ville, was reportedly felt as far away as the Dominican Republic, according to early assessments. This new seismic event has stirred painful memories of Haiti’s devastating 2010 earthquake, keeping the population on high alert.
