Haiti’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs has expressed deep concern following the armed attack that took place during the night of July 27 to 28, 2025, in Providenciales, Turks and Caicos Islands. Three people were killed and ten others seriously injured after a violent incursion into the Island Hookah Lounge shortly before 3 a.m.
In an official statement, the Haitian Chancellery strongly condemned “this heinous act” and extended its “deepest sympathies” to the local authorities, including Governor Dileeni Daniel-Selvaratnam and Prime Minister Charles Washington Misick, as well as to the families of the victims. The Ministry also expressed its solidarity with the population affected by the tragedy.
It further mentioned the recent string of fires in the archipelago, including one on July 24 that severely damaged several homes occupied by Haitian nationals. Condolences and support were extended to the affected families.
In this tense context, Haitian diplomacy urged members of the local Haitian community to “exercise caution, calm, and restraint,” and warned against any manipulation or exploitation of these tragic events. The Ministry emphasized the importance of awaiting the results of ongoing investigations.
At an emergency press conference, Police Commissioner Fitz Bailey described the shooting as “deeply troubling,” noting that surveillance footage suggests the involvement of four heavily armed individuals. Early evidence points to possible rivalries involving Haitian gangs.
Prime Minister Misick publicly addressed the Haitian community, stating, “Many of these gangland-style attacks appear to be concentrated within our Haitian communities.” In response, the Haitian government reiterated its commitment to strengthening bilateral cooperation on security and crime prevention.
