A large-scale anti-drug operation was carried out on Sunday, July 13, on Tortuga Island, resulting in the dramatic seizure of 1,045 kilos of cocaine, according to an authorized police source. The intervention, coordinated by Haitian National Police (HNP) Director General Normil Rameau, brought together the joint efforts of the BLTS (Anti-Narcotics Brigade), UDMO, and the Coast Guard.
During the raid, three suspected traffickers were shot dead, and one individual was arrested at the scene. The boat carrying the drugs was confiscated, marking a major setback for smuggling networks operating in this strategic area.
According to acting commissioner Jeir Pierre, law enforcement is continuing to search the surrounding waters in an effort to intercept other vessels involved. “Vigilance remains essential and coordination is being strengthened,” authorities reported on Monday at BLTS headquarters in Port-de-Paix.
