On Friday, June 6, 2025, a preparatory meeting for the Grand North Forum was held in Cap-Haitien, attended by Minister of the Interior Paul Antoine Bien-Aimé. Joined by the Departmental Delegate for the North and the Director of Local Authorities, the minister participated in a working session focused on development, security, and investment priorities.
In a statement, the ministry reported that “representatives from various sectors—including chambers of commerce, the private sector, FENAMH, CIAT, universities, affected municipalities, as well as senior officials from the Interior Ministry—took part in the consultations.” This broad representation reflects a commitment to an inclusive approach across the three northern departments.
When asked about the initiative’s objectives, Minister Bien-Aimé stated: “This project must serve as a unifying force and enable different sectors, with government support, to launch key infrastructure development projects in the North, Northeast, and Northwest in particular.” His remarks suggest that targeted investments may soon materialize.
The event comes amid ongoing institutional fragility, as regional leaders and citizens alike continue to await coherent and coordinated public policies. Whether the forum will lead to concrete action or remain at the stage of promising consultations remains to be seen.
