The Liberal Party of Canada has officially nominated Marjorie Michel as its candidate for the Papineau riding in the upcoming federal elections scheduled for April 28, 2025. The announcement was made on Sunday by Terry Duguid, co-chair of the party’s national campaign, in an official statement.
Of Haitian descent, Marjorie Michel will succeed former Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, who has represented the riding since 2008. A former deputy chief of staff to Trudeau, she is also the daughter of Smarck Michel, Haiti’s former prime minister. Her deep involvement in the Liberal Party and extensive experience in Canadian politics position her as a key figure in the party’s next generation of leadership.
With this nomination, the Liberal Party secures an experienced and committed candidate to uphold its presence in this Montreal stronghold. The official statement highlights that her selection aligns with a broader strategy to mobilize Canadians and elect new Liberal MPs from diverse backgrounds.
