Amid escalating violence around Avenue Christophe, the Faculty of Human Sciences (FASCH) at the State University of Haiti has decided to temporarily suspend all in-person academic and administrative activities. In a statement released on March 13, 2025, the institution justified this measure as necessary to protect students, professors, and administrative staff from the dangers posed by the prevailing insecurity.
For several weeks, armed groups have been spreading terror in this part of downtown Port-au-Prince, making movement perilous and disrupting the operations of nearby institutions. Despite occasional interventions by law enforcement, the situation remains precarious, prompting FASCH to take this exceptional decision to prevent any risk to its community.
The Faculty’s Coordinating Council, led by Josué Vaval, has called for understanding and solidarity from all stakeholders. It emphasized that this suspension does not signify an abandonment of academic activities but rather a necessary response to a reality that threatens both the smooth running of courses and the well-being of students.
