The United States firmly condemns the massacre carried out by Viv Ansanm terrorists in Cabaret (Labodrie)

September 15, 2025

“We are deeply saddened by the violent incident that claimed the lives of Haitians in Labordrie,” the U.S. Embassy in Port-au-Prince said in a statement released Sunday. The tragedy shook the commune of Cabaret, where repeated assaults by armed gangs left dozens dead, homes burned, and families decimated.

The embassy added: “We extend our deepest condolences to the families and loved ones of the victims.” This expression of solidarity comes as Cabaret and Arcahaie have faced mounting pressure for more than six days, marked by mass population displacement and widespread fear.

In its message, the diplomatic mission stressed that “the United States strongly condemns the terrorist gangs behind this senseless attack.” The stance echoes local appeals denouncing the expansion of Viv Ansanm and the reprisals unleashed after the death of one of its leaders, plunging the area into a murderous spiral.

Finally, Washington reiterated that “Haitians and the international community must work together to stop the terrorist gangs” and emphasized that “Haiti’s security is important to the United States.” The message seeks to spur a collective response at a time when the Haitian state is struggling to contain violence that exceeds the capacity of its security forces.
