The Provisional Electoral Council (CEP) has clarified the situation regarding the recruitment exam for members of the Departmental Electoral Offices (BED) and Communal Electoral Offices (BEC). A press release, purportedly issued by the CEP, circulated recently, announcing a postponement of the exam initially scheduled for Sunday, January 19, 2025. However, the CEP has dismissed this information, labeling it as “fake” and reaffirming that the exam will proceed as planned according to its original schedule.
The false press release, dated January 17, 2025, claimed that the exam was postponed to allow for a “thorough verification of documents submitted by the candidates.” It also indicated that a new date would be announced “in due course.” In response, the CEP promptly reassured applicants and the public that all preparations for the exam are complete and that it will take place on Sunday, January 19, as originally planned.
This exam is a critical step in Haiti’s electoral and referendum process. The CEP had previously submitted an electoral calendar proposal to the two branches of the interim executive, along with a draft referendum decree and a proposed budget. By maintaining the January 19 date, the institution demonstrates its commitment to fulfilling its obligations despite attempts to spread disinformation that could confuse candidates and the public.
In a political and social climate marked by significant challenges, this instance of manipulation through a fake press release underscores the importance of vigilance and verifying sources of information. The CEP has urged candidates to disregard the false release and prepare for the January 19 exam, reaffirming its dedication to ensuring a transparent and fair electoral process.
