Southern Haiti Now Connected to International Air Transport

March 6, 2025

The Antoine Simon Airport in Les Cayes has reached a significant milestone with the official inauguration of its international services on Wednesday, March 5, 2025. This event was marked by the presence of Leslie Voltaire, the Coordinator of the Transitional Presidential Council (TPC), who launched this long-awaited initiative.

For local authorities and residents of the South, this advancement represents much more than just an improvement in infrastructure: it symbolizes an opening to new economic and tourism opportunities.

This strategic development aims to facilitate trade exchanges and enhance the appeal of the Greater South as a tourist destination. By accommodating international flights, the airport could boost the hotel sector, encourage investments, and stimulate the local economy.

Beyond the immediate benefits, this initiative is part of a broader vision to improve Haiti’s accessibility. In a context of reconstruction, it reflects a desire to revitalize the country through tangible and forward-looking projects.

The airport’s opening to international flights thus offers a ray of hope and confirms that development is still possible, despite the ongoing challenges.
