Rising Insecurity in Haiti: China Blames the United States for Crisis Escalation

April 22, 2025

China has sharply accused the United States of playing a direct role in the worsening security crisis in Haiti, during a UN Security Council meeting held on April 21, 2025. Chinese representative Fu Cong explicitly pointed to Washington’s involvement in fueling the ongoing violence.

According to Beijing, while the U.S. presents itself as a global leader on security issues, it is now shirking its responsibilities. The Chinese diplomat accused Washington of orchestrating Haiti’s political transition—a process that, in his words, has spiraled out of control.

Ambassador Fu also criticized U.S. support for former President Donald Trump’s trade policies, particularly the 10% tariff imposed on Haitian goods. China claims this measure is exacerbating the Caribbean nation’s already dire economic and social conditions.

These remarks have intensified diplomatic tensions on the international stage and raised fresh questions about the sincerity of America’s commitment to Haiti’s recovery—especially amid delays in the deployment of the long-anticipated multinational security force.
