On Sunday, August 4, the 400 Mawozo gang set fire to a Haitian National Police (HNP) armored vehicle and the premises of the General Customs Administration in Ganthier. The head of government and President of the Superior Council of the National Police, seeking to react quickly, promptly met with the high command of the HNP immediately after the events.
Accompanied by the Minister of Justice and Public Security, Attorney Carlos Hercule, he held a working session with the Director General of the HNP, Rameau Normil, to evaluate and decide on the strategic responses to be adopted. The government reiterated its commitment to strengthening police presence throughout the national territory, focusing on areas controlled by criminals.
During this meeting, specific measures were discussed to intensify security operations and dislodge the armed gangs terrorizing citizens. The HNP issued a statement clarifying that the burned armored vehicle was out of service and had been parked for some time, refuting rumors that it was involved in a police operation at the time of the incident. This clarification aims to restore the truth and prevent the spread of false information that could cause panic among the population.
Despite this incident, the HNP continues to maintain a reinforced security presence in the commune of Ganthier. Operations against the “400 Mawozo” gang are actively continuing under the direction of the Acting Director General, Mr. Rameau Normil. These actions are part of a broader campaign to dismantle criminal groups in the Croix-des-Bouquets district, a region under their control for more than two years.
Despite the challenges, the determination of the authorities to restore order and security remains unwavering. The HNP and security forces continue to work tirelessly to track down criminals and ensure the protection of Haitian citizens.
