From April 11 to 13, 2025, the city of Montreal pulsed with the energy of the 7th edition of the International Days of the Haitian Diaspora—an event proudly hailed by the Ministry of Haitians Living Abroad (MHAVE) as a “remarkable success.” Held under the ambitious theme “Haiti, A New Beginning,” the gathering brought together a wide range of actors committed to rebuilding Haiti economically and culturally. For MHAVE, the event represented more than just a gathering—it embodied “a dynamic partnership between the Haitian state and its diaspora.”
Canada’s Haitian community mobilized in exemplary fashion, earning praise from officials. Rich discussions, high-quality panels, and deep reflections demonstrated the diaspora’s clear desire to be a force for change in their homeland. “This initiative is part of strengthening ties with the diaspora,” the Ministry emphasized, underscoring the importance of active civic engagement among Haitians abroad.
J.E. Kathia Verdier, Minister of Haitians Living Abroad, expressed heartfelt gratitude to all who contributed to what she called “a beautiful display of unity, commitment, and patriotism.” She applauded the organizers, partners, speakers, and participants, affirming that the event reaffirmed the diaspora’s essential role in Haiti’s reconstruction. MHAVE sees this momentum as a model of collaboration to nurture and expand.
The Montreal event went beyond symbolism—it laid the foundation for renewed cooperation between Haiti and its overseas sons and daughters. The Ministry called it tangible proof that the diaspora can play a strategic role across all aspects of national life. “MHAVE reaffirms its commitment to support and uplift all initiatives aimed at strengthening ties between Haiti and its diaspora,” the official statement reads.
Calling on the diaspora to remain “mobilized, creative, and proactive,” MHAVE envisions a shared future where dreams and efforts align. “Only together—through mutual listening and collaboration—can we build an Ayiti chéri worthy of its history and its aspirations,” Minister Verdier concluded. Her words echo as a call to transform cultural bridges into true engines of development.
