Macénat Lebelt, a student of international relations at the Center for Diplomatic and International Studies (CEDI), was fatally struck by a stray bullet while attending class on Tuesday, February 11, 2025. The victim, in the middle of an academic session, stood no chance against the gunfire, the source of which remains unknown.
The exact circumstances of the tragedy are still unclear, but initial reports suggest that a shootout occurred near the campus, causing stray bullets to scatter in the vicinity. Despite the swift intervention of emergency responders, the student succumbed to his injuries. His classmates, still in shock, denounced the growing violence that has now infiltrated classrooms, turning places of learning into scenes of tragedy.
The incident, which took place in the heart of the higher education institution, once again raises concerns about the increasing insecurity that threatens even the most protected spaces. Just last month, a professor was killed by a stray bullet in the center of Port-au-Prince.
