Due to the continued deterioration of security in Haiti, Aruba Airlines has announced the temporary suspension of its flights departing from Port-au-Prince. This decision will remain in effect until there is a significant improvement in the security situation, according to a statement from the airline. Aware of the inconvenience caused, Aruba Airlines began issuing full refunds for purchased tickets on March 18, 2025, ensuring that affected passengers receive regular updates regarding refund procedures and the possible resumption of flights.
Haiti’s security situation has significantly worsened in recent months. Armed gangs have intensified their violent actions, now controlling large parts of the capital. Recent incidents, such as the attack on a convoy evacuating medical personnel in Port-au-Prince, illustrate the scale of the insecurity. Additionally, symbolic infrastructures, such as the former headquarters of Radio Télévision Caraïbes, have been set on fire by criminal groups, further deepening the climate of terror.
In response to this instability, other airlines have taken similar measures. JetBlue Airways, for example, has extended the suspension of its flights to and from Haiti until June 11, 2025, citing ongoing civil unrest. At the same time, the United States Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) has issued an advisory extending the ban on U.S. commercial aircraft landing in Port-au-Prince until September 2025, reflecting growing concerns over flight safety in the region.
These widespread flight suspensions further isolate Haiti internationally, complicating travel for residents and visitors while hindering crucial humanitarian efforts. The international community is urged to step up support to stabilize the situation and enable the swift resumption of air services, which are vital for the country’s economic and social development.
