Haiti Launches the 2025 Hydrometeorological SIMEX, a Critical Test Amid a Threatening Hurricane Season

September 9, 2025

The Directorate-General of Civil Protection has officially announced the launch of the 2025 National Hydrometeorological SIMEX: “Civil Protection officially launched today at noon the 2025 National Hydrometeorological SIMEX in Coud du Sud-Est.”

The announcement specifies that “The exercises will take place on September 6 and 8 in Marigot, Bainet, and Jacmel to test emergency preparedness and train local actors.”

The stated objective of the exercise is to put local risk management mechanisms to the test — coordination, early warning, and frontline interventions — under simulated conditions.

These SIMEX drills are part of the national policy to strengthen the capacity of municipal civil protection committees and aim to evaluate and correct operational procedures in the field.

The timetable comes as forecasters predict an above-normal 2025 hurricane season, with an increased likelihood of major hydrometeorological events in the Caribbean region. National preparedness therefore requires practical exercises to reduce the impact of storms and heavy rains on already vulnerable populations.
