Garry Conille Meets with CNE Staff Following Decision to Dissolve the Institution

September 4, 2024

On Monday, September 2, 2024, Garry Conille met with the general management of the National Equipment Center (NEC). This meeting, convened after the Cabinet meeting chaired by the Presidential Council that same day, aimed to discuss the administrative aspects related to the government’s decision to dissolve the NEC.

During the meeting, the Prime Minister emphasized that this decision is part of a strategy for more rational and efficient management of public resources, to benefit the population. According to the approved decree, all equipment, materials, and real estate assets of the NEC will be transferred to the Haitian Armed Forces (FAD’H).

Garry Conille also reassured the NEC staff about their future following this decision. In a statement released on September 3, 2024, he specified that a team will be tasked with evaluating and regularizing the employees, who will be reclassified as either contractual workers or civil servants. Based on their skills, they will be assigned to the FAD’H, the Ministry of Public Works, Transport and Communications (MTPTC), or the Ministry of Defense (MD).

Furthermore, the Prime Minister announced that NEC equipment will be outfitted with GPS devices to facilitate their tracking and ensure their use in serving the population. The transfer of equipment to the FAD’H is part of an effort to strengthen the Haitian state’s intervention capabilities at a time when controlling transportation routes is crucial to restoring security in the country.
