Elections in Haiti: European Union calls for staying the course

July 3, 2026

The European Union’s Ambassador to Haiti, Hélène Roos, reaffirmed the importance of organizing inclusive elections as soon as possible. A guest on the Panel Magik program, she stated that this electoral event is essential for the country’s democratic future.

According to the diplomat, every citizen must be able to participate freely in the electoral process in order to guarantee the credibility of the vote. She considers this participation to be one of the foundations of a lasting return to institutional normalcy.

Hélène Roos also indicated that the European Union remains willing to support the Haitian authorities in the election preparations. She however recalled that any assistance will depend on requests made by the government and the Electoral Council.

For the ambassador, the organization of elections must not be called into question despite the current difficulties. She insisted that holding the vote must remain a priority in order to restore constitutional order in Haiti.
