Draft Constitution: CPT Cancels International Tour, Turns to Digital Consultation with the Diaspora

July 18, 2025

On Wednesday, July 16, the Transitional Presidential Council (CPT) announced its decision to cancel its planned international awareness tour regarding the draft constitution, originally scheduled to take place across Latin America and North America. The decision follows concerns raised by journalist associations and media organizations, according to an official statement.

The tour, which aimed to promote a text already under fire for both its content and the process behind its drafting, will now be replaced by a more participatory strategy. The CPT has opted to revise its approach in favor of broader and more targeted dialogue.

The Council emphasized its commitment to actively involve members of the Haitian diaspora in shaping the country’s future. “Haitian authorities reaffirm their desire to fully integrate the diaspora,” the statement to the press reads.

To this end, digital platforms will be used to maintain continuous engagement with Haitian communities abroad, in coordination with already mobilized diplomatic and consular missions. The goal is to ensure effective communication without geographical barriers.

With this new direction, the CPT aims to address public demands for transparency, accountability, and inclusion. The Council pledges to make this inclusive process a foundation for building an institutional future rooted in democratic principles.
