A delegation from CARICOM’s Group of Eminent Persons is expected in Port-au-Prince from September 2 to 9, 2026, to take stock of the progress of the Haitian transition.
This visit comes amid a climate of growing political tensions, particularly related to the organization of the upcoming vote.
The regional envoys will meet with interim authorities, the new political coalitions, as well as historic parties such as Pitit Dessalines, Fanmi Lavalas, EDE, the SDP and their allies. Civil society actors are also on their agenda.
The main subject of discord remains the launch of the VIKTWA platform by Prime Minister Alix Didier Fils-Aimé. Many denounce this maneuver, seeing it as a challenge to the impartiality of the head of government in managing the electoral process.
This mission is of capital importance in Haiti’s accompaniment by its Caribbean neighbors, while the eyes of the international community remain fixed on efforts to guarantee reliable elections and a lasting return to constitutional order.
