Three officers of the Haitian National Police (PNH) and one civilian lost their lives on Friday, May 29, 2026, during an operation carried out in Carrefour Robert, on the Verrettes road, in the Artibonite department. The victims fell during violent clashes between law enforcement and armed men who control part of the area.
According to several consistent sources, the vehicle transporting the police officers was involved in an accident before falling into a ravine. The officers were then reportedly targeted by armed gang members, while the bodies of the police officers were still in the area controlled by the assailants at the time of initial reports.
In a note published Saturday, the PNH confirmed the deaths of three of its officers as well as that of a civilian, without revealing the identities of the victims or their assigned unit. The institution specifies that the police officers were killed during shootouts with heavily armed gangs, as part of a large-scale offensive aimed at dismantling active criminal strongholds in Artibonite.
The PNH High Command saluted the courage of the fallen officers and extended condolences to the bereaved families. Reinforcements and specialized teams remain mobilized on the ground to recover the bodies, regain control of the sector, and pursue the armed groups involved in this attack.
