Bomb Threat in Springfield, Ohio, Following Donald Trump’s Remarks on Haitian Migrants

September 16, 2024

On Thursday, September 12, the city of Springfield, Ohio, was the site of a bomb threat, leading to the immediate evacuation of City Hall. According to an official post on the city’s Facebook page, local authorities decided to close City Hall in response to the threat.

This city of about 60,000 residents has been embroiled in a heated controversy for several days, linked to controversial statements made by Donald Trump regarding Haitian migrants living in the area.

Since Monday, Springfield has been facing baseless accusations made by former President Donald Trump, claiming that Haitian migrants were allegedly targeting pets to consume them. Although local police and various media outlets, including AFP, quickly debunked these allegations, Trump continued to spread this false information during multiple public appearances.

The White House has strongly condemned these remarks, calling the theory a “conspiracy” and “racist.” John Kirby, a spokesperson for the National Security Council, warned that this type of disinformation could incite dangerous, potentially violent actions among the public.
