The Haitian government welcomed, this Thursday, September 3, the signing by U.S. President Donald J. Trump of the law extending the HOPE and HELP programs until December 31, 2028.
In a statement, the authorities believe that this measure represents a major step forward for the national economy, particularly for the textile sector, the main beneficiary of these trade preferences granted by the United States.
According to the Prime Minister’s Office, this extension will help support thousands of jobs and the families that depend on this industry, in an economic context marked by severe difficulties.
The government expressed its gratitude to President Trump as well as to the American and Haitian officials who contributed to the adoption of this resolution.
It sees in it a new sign of U.S. support for Haiti’s economic development.
The authorities finally reaffirm their willingness to collaborate with their partners in order to take full advantage of the opportunities offered by these programs.
