The situation remains tense in Cap-Haïtien, where several areas of the country’s second-largest city are being affected by protest movements. This Thursday, many schools remained closed due to road blockades on major routes.
Protesters erected barricades at strategic points, notably in Madeline at the eastern entrance and in Vertières at the southern entrance. These blockades significantly slowed traffic and disrupted several economic and social activities.
The demonstrators denounce the severe deterioration of roads as well as sanitation problems in various neighborhoods. They are demanding urgent interventions for infrastructure rehabilitation, drainage cleaning, and maintenance of water evacuation systems.
Despite the presence since the previous day of a government commission composed of Interior Minister Paul Antoine Bien-Aimé, Environment Minister Valery Fils-Aimé, and Public Works Minister Joseph Almathe Pierre Louis, the situation remains unchanged and the blockades continue.
