August 19, 2025

Haitian youth have lost one of their promising faces with the tragic death of 19-year-old Zamy Wanderson. The young TikToker, known by the pseudonym WZ12, was fatally struck by a stray bullet on Monday, August 18, 2025, in Delmas 83.

The tragedy occurred while teachers were demonstrating in front of the Ministry of National Education. In the confusion, an officer reportedly fired toward the crowd, and the projectile struck Zamy, who did not survive despite being rushed to the hospital.

A former student of Collège Canado-Haïtien and a basketball enthusiast, he had just completed high school and hoped to continue his athletic and academic journey. His sudden death sent shockwaves through his family and the educational community.

The Haitian Basketball Federation paid tribute to his memory, noting that he represented a hope for the national sport and an example for his generation. This tragedy serves as yet another reminder of the violence that strikes indiscriminately, depriving the country of its young talents.
