Haitian Government Announces $243 Million in Investments with Support from IDB

May 18, 2025

The eighth edition of the “Tuesdays of the Nation” public forum was marked by the announcement of significant outcomes following the recent visit of Inter-American Development Bank (IDB) President Ilan Goldfajn to northern Haiti. Minister Alfred Fils Métellus hailed the visit as a “strategic mission” that reflects the institution’s renewed commitment to Haiti.

At the center of the announcement was a funding package totaling $243 million for the 2025–2026 period, of which $143 million is already available. The financing is intended to support projects with direct social and economic impact at a time when the country is actively seeking concrete levers for development.

One of the major initiatives includes a $125 million potable water and sanitation project, expected to benefit 30,000 households in the northern region. The program is being highlighted as a model of cooperation focused on addressing the urgent needs of local communities.

Another key announcement was the rehabilitation of Justinien University Hospital in Cap-Haïtien, with a revised budget of $100 million. According to government officials, this adjustment reflects “prioritized needs and mobilized resources” aimed at ensuring the effectiveness of public investments.

“The IDB has reaffirmed its commitment to Haiti’s sustainable development,” emphasized Minister Fils Métellus, who sees this strengthened partnership as an opportunity to achieve tangible results. The government has pledged to translate these commitments into visible action on the ground.
