Mirebalais Hospital Shuts Down Amid Security Crisis, Other Facilities Overwhelmed

April 28, 2025

The Mirebalais University Hospital has suspended its services until further notice, according to an internal memo from Zanmi Lasante sent to its staff. The decision stems from the alarming deterioration of security in the city.

Dr. Ralph Ternier, an executive with the organization, confirmed the information, emphasizing that the message was intended for internal administrative purposes. He clarified that the communication was meant to guide employees in a context where hospital operations have become impossible.

No direct damage to the facility has been reported; however, the city remains paralyzed. Dr. Ternier stated that the hospital’s reopening will depend entirely on the evolution of the security situation.

Meanwhile, Zanmi Lasante hospitals in Hinche, Lascahobas, and Belladère are experiencing significant strain. Part of the Mirebalais staff has been redeployed, but the network’s capacity is already being severely tested.
