2026, Security And Elections: The Prime Minister Persists

January 23, 2026

In a video address broadcast on official platforms, Prime Minister Alix Didier Fils-Aimé presented 2026 as a decisive year for Haiti, placed under the dual imperative of security and elections. The head of government asserts that these two priorities will structure public action throughout the year.

According to him, authorities have launched sustained operations against armed groups in order to regain control of occupied areas. This dynamic aims in particular to allow the gradual return of displaced populations to their neighborhoods of origin.

Alix Didier Fils-Aimé maintains that government action is relentless, insisting on daily engagement in the face of the scale of the security crisis. He considers the restoration of public order a prerequisite for any lasting stabilization of the country.

The Prime Minister explicitly links the security issue to the organization of the elections announced for 2026. He states that only minimal security conditions will allow the holding of credible elections and the restoration of state authority across the entire territory.

While acknowledging the absence of a precise electoral calendar at this stage, the head of government says he wants to make 2026 a better year than the previous one. He praised the work of the Haitian National Police and the units engaged, highlighting their central role in the fight against insecurity despite persistent difficulties.
