Violent Attack by “Viv Ansanm” Gang in Mirebalais

April 2, 2025

The commune of Mirebalais, located in the Center Department, was the scene of a brutal attack carried out by the armed gang “Viv Ansanm” during the night of Sunday, March 30, to Monday, March 31, 2025.

Coming from Croix-des-Bouquets and Canaan, the criminals set fire to several homes in the Trianon and La Bastille areas, spreading terror among residents. Meanwhile, in Saut-d’Eau, law enforcement struggled to repel the attackers in the Grosse-Pierre area.

This assault occurs amid a worsening national security crisis. According to a United Nations Security Council report, gang violence claimed the lives of 5,626 people and injured 2,213 others in 2024. Additionally, more than one million people in Haiti are now displaced, fleeing the relentless clashes between gangs and security forces.

The United Nations also reports that gangs are using sexual violence against women and girls as a weapon of war
