The U.S. Embassy in Port-au-Prince announced on Wednesday that, due to the expiration of budget appropriations in Washington, its communication channels—particularly on X/Twitter—will no longer be updated regularly. “This account will not be updated regularly until full operations resume, except for urgent safety and security information,” the notice states.
However, the diplomatic mission sought to reassure the public that its services will continue. “At this time, passport and visa services scheduled in the United States and at U.S. embassies and consulates abroad will continue during the appropriations lapse,” the statement adds.
This measure comes as U.S. institutions are operating at a slower pace because of a budget impasse in Congress. The Embassy specified that it will adjust its operations based on how the situation evolves.
U.S. citizens and Haitian users are encouraged to check the official website travel.state.gov regularly for updated information. The Embassy notes that only security-related communications will be posted on its digital platforms in case of an emergency.
