Meeting today with political actors, representatives of civil society, and members of Haiti’s private sector, CARICOM officials reached a decisive orientation for the post–February 7 period. In light of the persistent inability of national stakeholders to agree on a shared vision, the regional organization decided to entrust the exclusive leadership of the transition to Prime Minister Alix Didier Fils-Aimé.
This option, reminiscent of the institutional configuration during the Ariel Henry period, emerges amid growing international disillusionment. The failure of the Transitional Presidential Council (TPC)—undermined by internal rivalries, U.S. sanctions, and a failed attempt to oust the head of government—has made its continuation politically untenable.
Now solely at the helm, Alix Didier Fils-Aimé bears a heavy responsibility. He must accelerate governance reforms, support the deployment of the multinational force, and create the conditions for credible elections—the only sustainable way out of the current crisis.
