A police operation conducted on the afternoon of Tuesday, January 20, 2026, put an end to the activities of an armed group extorting passersby at an improvised toll booth in Bercy, at the entrance to the municipality of Arcahaie. At least five armed individuals were killed during the intervention led by the Haitian National Police (PNH) with support from a task force.
According to a police source, the operation also resulted in the seizure of two rifles used by the assailants. The intervention aimed to restore security along this strategic route frequently used by travelers.
Earlier that day, the acting Director General of the PNH, André Jonas Vladimir Paraison, had reiterated a public call for gang members to lay down their arms and surrender, emphasizing that the police now have the necessary means to neutralize armed groups that persist in violence.
