The United States Embassy in Haiti confirmed on Thursday the effective deployment of the Gang Suppression Force, a new international mission operating under a United Nations mandate. Established in accordance with UN Resolution 2793 (2025), the FRG officially replaces the Multinational Security Support (MSS) mission for an initial period of one year.
According to the Embassy, this force — made up of 5,500 uniformed members and 50 civilians — “works in close coordination with the Haitian National Police and the Armed Forces” to combat criminal groups and restore lasting security. The mission has been granted an expanded mandate that includes the protection of strategic infrastructure, the securing of humanitarian corridors, and support for state institutions.
The statement from the diplomatic mission also highlighted the key role of the new United Nations Support Office in Haiti (UNSOH), which provides logistical and medical assistance to the FRG. “The deployment of this force reflects the international community’s determination to support Haiti in its quest for stability and peace,” the text said.
Joint operations are already underway in the Artibonite region, particularly around the Albert Schweitzer Hospital in Deschapelles, where security has been significantly reinforced. On this occasion, the U.S. Embassy also noted the recent delivery of twenty additional armored vehicles to support field operations.
In praising the courage of both Haitian and international forces, the Embassy reaffirmed “its firm commitment to supporting the FRG in fulfilling its mandate.” It reiterated that the United States remains a steadfast partner of the Haitian people in the fight against armed violence and in restoring democratic and institutional order.
