Single-Headed Executive: Alix Didier Fils-Aimé’s First Decisive Moves as Head of Government

February 7, 2026

The first decisions of the new executive authority were announced immediately after the Council of Ministers chaired by Alix Didier Fils-Aimé. Alfred Metellus was dismissed, and the Prime Minister appointed himself interim Minister of Economy and Finance pending the appointment of a permanent officeholder.

At the same time, a decree formalizing the single-headed executive was signed, confirming the concentration of executive power in the hands of the head of government. The mayors of Port-au-Prince, Pétion-Ville, and Gressier were also replaced.

This extraordinary Council of Ministers was held in accordance with Article 28.1 of the May 27, 2024 decree, immediately following the end of the TPC’s mandate. According to the official statement, discussions focused on “urgent decisions aimed at ensuring State continuity, security, and national stability.”

This initial sequence marks a clear break from the collegial governance of the transition. Alix Didier Fils-Aimé is scheduled to address the nation at 8:00 p.m. to outline the direction of this new political phase.
