Second Kenyan Soldier Killed, Armored Vehicles Set Ablaze by Gangs in Savien

March 27, 2025

A Kenyan soldier from the Multinational Security Support (MSS) mission was killed on Tuesday, March 25, 2025, in Bas-Artibonite during an attack by armed gangs in Savien.

Three armored vehicles belonging to the deployed forces were also set on fire, further escalating insecurity in the region and leaving the local population in deep distress.

On February 23, 2025, another Kenyan officer from the MSS was fatally wounded during an operation against armed gangs in Savien, Bas-Artibonite.

Since the arrival of the first contingents in February 2024, more than 600 Kenyan police officers—recently reinforced by 200 additional personnel—have joined Haitian security forces as part of a coalition supported by soldiers and police officers from Jamaica, Guatemala, and El Salvador. Their mission is to restore stability in a country increasingly plagued by gang violence
