Rift at the Top of the Transition: St-Cyr and Voltaire Sidelined, Fils-Aimé Positioned as Sole Leader

February 7, 2026

According to our information, sharp tensions marked Thursday, February 5, 2026, at the Villa d’Accueil.

Two Presidential Councilors opposed to the establishment of a single-headed executive, Laurent St-Cyr and Leslie Voltaire, left the premises amid a climate of rupture.

Backed by Emmanuel Vertilaire, St-Cyr reportedly led an unsuccessful internal campaign to maintain collective executive leadership.

Meanwhile, the Fanmi Lavalas representative, supported by Louis Gérald Gilles, Fritz Alphonse Jean, and Edgard Leblanc Fils, reportedly promoted his own candidacy for sole presidency after February 7.

In response to the tensions, Smith Augustin attempted to calm the situation, stating in correspondence that he supported no candidate and rejected any maneuver likely to further destabilize the transition.

Ultimately, both contenders departed without agreement.

The country is heading toward a single-headed executive led by Alix Didier Fils-Aimé as of February 7.
