Presidency Denies Rumors of Nationwide Shutdown

February 7, 2026

As viral messages announced a nationwide shutdown beginning February 4, the Presidency moved to dispel the confusion by categorically rejecting these claims. The General Secretariat confirmed that the document circulating on social media did not originate from any official authority.

Officials believe the false announcement is part of a recurring disinformation strategy aimed at unsettling public opinion. They urge the population to verify sources and rely solely on institutional channels for information of national interest.

This denial comes amid an especially tense political and security climate, on the eve of sensitive institutional deadlines. In several neighborhoods of the capital, activity remains cautious and movement limited.

A visible reinforcement of security has been observed around strategic sites, notably the National Palace and the Villa d’Accueil. The Presidency assures regular communication and warns that the spread of unverified rumors unnecessarily fuels collective anxiety.
