Three members of the Armed Forces of Haiti were killed and three others seriously wounded on Sunday, April 20, in Kenscoff, following an ambush by armed gangs. The soldiers, traveling in an unarmored pickup truck sent as reinforcements, came under heavy fire in Carrefour Maroca—a zone under gang control.
Despite recent operations backed by explosive drones, attacks on security forces continue unabated. The assailants, entrenched in strategic positions, launched a targeted assault that spread panic among nearby residents. According to a military source, the soldiers had no time to respond, highlighting the ferocity of the attack.
For months, the gang coalition “Viv Ansanm” has expanded its hold over Kenscoff, now claiming control of nearly 90% of the area.
Authorities have remained tight-lipped about the effectiveness of drone strikes deployed a day earlier by the Presidential Transitional Council’s task force. Still, each new operation seems to bring fresh losses within the ranks of law enforcement.
This bloody Sunday underscores a grim truth: the gangs are calling the shots, and Kenscoff is descending further into chaos.
