The United Nations Integrated Office in Haiti (BINUH) reports that between July and September 2024, gang violence in Haiti claimed the lives of 1,223 people and injured another 522.
In response to this tragedy, BINUH urges the international community to strengthen and expedite the deployment of the Multinational Security Support (MSS) mission in alignment with international human rights standards.
To combat impunity, the Ministry of Justice and the Superior Council of the Judiciary, in collaboration with the Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights, have signed an agreement to establish specialized judicial units. Supported by the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC), these units aim to address mass and financial crimes, including sexual violence.
As attacks continue in the Artibonite region and the Port-au-Prince neighborhoods, particularly in Solino, the need for coordinated action to stem this spiral of violence is more urgent than ever.
