Civil aviation authorities have confirmed the loss of contact with an aircraft operating a domestic flight between Jérémie and Les Cayes, prompting the immediate mobilization of the relevant authorities. The aircraft, registered as N361AF, never reached its destination, and its last known position is believed to be in a hard-to-access area in the southern part of the country.
Alerted in the afternoon of February 5, 2026, the Joint Rescue and Coordination Center (JRCC/SAR), under the authority of the National Civil Aviation Office (OFNAC in French), activated its emergency response system and coordinated interventions with several institutional partners. However, aerial search operations could not begin the same day due to nightfall, which limited immediate response capabilities.
At dawn the following day, a specialized team, working in coordination with the JRCC/SAR, was deployed to initiate ground search operations in the presumed crash area. According to OFNAC, the aircraft belongs to the humanitarian organization AGAPE Flights, which provides assistance to populations in Haiti, although the number of people on board has not yet been officially confirmed.
This incident occurs amid growing concerns over aviation safety in the Far South. Two days earlier, another aircraft chartered by BOLT and flying from Port-au-Prince was forced to make an emergency landing near Antoine-Simon Airport in Les Cayes, carrying six occupants, with no reported loss of life. OFNAC stated that it will provide regular updates on the progress of the search and the circumstances surrounding the accident.
