Haitian Government Helicopter Targeted in Mid-Flight: One Police Officer Injured, Travel Suspended

April 3, 2025

While transporting reinforcements to Mirebalais, the Haitian government helicopter was hit by projectiles mid-flight. The attack, which occurred on Tuesday afternoon, injured a police officer and forced the aircraft to be grounded, leading to the cancellation of all official flights outside Port-au-Prince.

This incident raises further concerns about the safety of government officials, who are already constrained by the chaotic state of the country’s road network. With the helicopter out of service, governmental travel to the provinces or abroad becomes even more challenging, further isolating the nation’s leaders.

The attack also highlights the vulnerability of Haiti’s infrastructure and transportation systems. In a context where armed gangs control numerous areas, securing aerial routes has become an urgent priority.

In response to this growing threat, immediate measures must be taken to ensure the mobility of Haitian officials. Without swift action, the country’s governance could become even more paralyzed, worsening an already critical crisis
