Government suspends tax withholding Amid CODEVI strike

October 9, 2025

The Ministry of Economy and Finance (MEF) and the Ministry of Social Affairs and Labor (MAST) announced that “no withholdings by the General Tax Directorate will be made on the wages of the affected workers for the time being.” The measure comes as workers at the CODEVI industrial park launched a strike on Monday, October 6, 2025, to demand better pay.

The authorities specified that a “tripartite meeting with representatives of the executive branch, the unions, and employers will be organized” to discuss the minimum wage. Meanwhile, operations at the industrial park were paralyzed for two days—Monday the 6th and Tuesday the 7th—due to the protest movement.

According to local media sources, Monday’s demonstration at CODEVI brought together hundreds of workers calling for an immediate wage increase and an end to unfair deductions. Some protesters chanted that they would only resume work once their demands were heard by the government and employers.

The official statement concludes by saying that workers will “resume activities tomorrow, Wednesday, October 8, 2025.” The government urges all stakeholders to honor the agreed commitments in order to end the strike and restore normal operations at the park.
