On the night of December 6–7, two teenage girls, Valentina and Velenda Gaspard, were shot dead in their home in the locality of Tibi, Camp-Perrin, in southern Haiti. Unidentified armed individuals broke into the house and opened fire, according to local police authorities.
Alerted to the tragedy, the Haitian National Police immediately deployed joint operations involving the Departmental Judicial Police Service and the Departmental Crowd Control Unit. These interventions, carried out in the hours following the double murder, led to the arrest of eight individuals suspected of involvement in the case.
Those arrested include Jean Micheline, Chery Renaud, Alcide Wilchi, Jean Nazaire, Alcide Flaubert, Alexis Joseph Lesly alias “Pèpè,” Inno Frantz, and Estinvil Samson, according to the HNP. The investigation continues to identify possible accomplices and determine the motives behind the deadly attack.
Police reaffirmed their commitment to restoring order and bringing the perpetrators to justice, amid generalized insecurity affecting many parts of the country. This double murder illustrates the severity of Haiti’s security crisis, as armed violence continues to deeply affect communities.
