This Friday, during a press conference, Edgard Leblanc Fils and Lesly Voltaire publicly confirmed that steps are underway to replace Prime Minister Alix Didier Fils-Aimé, intensifying the political crisis that has shaken Haiti for more than four hours. Their announcement comes as five of the seven members of the Transitional Presidential Council (TPC) have signed a resolution calling for his resignation, despite a warning from the United States against any modification of the executive branch at this delicate stage of the transition.
According to the two councilors, the official document intended to formalize this decision has already been sent to the General Secretariat of the National Palace but remains blocked, creating an institutionally confusing situation. They noted that the Secretary General is now in a delicate position, caught between the demands of the TPC and the prescribed publication procedure.
Leblanc Fils expressed concern over messages circulated on social media by certain international partners, which he believes show a lack of respect for the sovereignty of the Haitian people. He insisted that foreign actors must acknowledge decisions taken by Haitian authorities within the country’s constitutional and institutional framework.
For his part, Lesly Voltaire adopted a firm tone, asserting that political choices must belong to Haitians themselves and that external criticism should not influence national processes. This statement reflects a growing fracture within Haiti’s governing apparatus at a time when the political climate is already unstable due to internal conflicts and international pressure.
