The Caribbean Community (CARICOM) has taken note of the official transfer of power by the Presidential Transitional Council after two years in office. In a statement published on February 10, the regional organization emphasized that Prime Minister Didier Fils-Aimé and his team now assume full responsibility for the executive branch.
CARICOM stressed the strictly temporary nature of this phase of governance, which it hopes will be “short” and clearly focused on precise priorities. These include restoring security, preparing elections, and reviving the economy and social fabric.
The regional body reiterated that “a Haitian-led and Haitian-driven approach remains fundamental,” advocating for inclusive dialogue involving civil society. It believes the legitimacy of the process will depend on this openness and on national ownership of decisions.
At the same time, CARICOM called on international partners to intensify their support in light of the humanitarian emergency. It expressed readiness to support initiatives by the head of government aimed at improving access to food, healthcare, and shelter, as Didier Fils-Aimé is expected at the end of February at the organization’s 50th Meeting of Heads of Government in Saint Kitts and Nevis.
