On Thursday, July 4, 2024, a decisive meeting was held at the Welcome Villa between the Superior Council of the Judicial Power (CSPJ) and the Presidential Transitional Council (CPT). This meeting took place in a context of deep crises within the Haitian judicial system, characterized by problems of access to justice and governance challenges.
According to a press release from the CSPJ, President Jean-Joseph Lebrun was accompanied by advisors Carves Jean, Durin Junior Duret, Wando Saint-Villier, and Technical Secretary Jean-Robert Constant. The Councilor-Presidents of the CPT, Emmanuel Vertilaire, Louis Gérald Gilles, and Smith Augustin, were present to discuss possible solutions to the current problems.
The discussions mainly focused on three major areas: collaboration between the Judicial Power and the Executive Power, the current situation of magistrates, and improving access to justice for citizens. A crucial point discussed during this meeting was the appointment and certification of magistrates, aimed at ensuring that the judicial system is led by competent and honest individuals capable of restoring public confidence.
